How To Write Copy For A Website (7 Ways To Think About)

Hey, I’m Anthony and today I’m going to teach you how to write web copy for your website. See the foundations are always their headline a good picture good description make your things easy to read but you see a writing copy for your website is slightly different from writing for something like an email a sales page or something like an advertisement now, if you can have a properly optimized copy for your website, not only will it make readers want to read more, but it’ll let them get more engaged and get your message clear. All right, let’s get started first thing you. Want to do is you want to put the most relevant information above the fold now the above the fold needs just the first thing that whenever they click on your website. Boom. They get that first page. Now, of course you want to be in part because it is your first impression. So you want to make the most tantalizing the most addicting the most attention grabbing headline that you can make for your blog that is relevant or your website and actually get them to stop for like half a second to glance at your headline and see what it’s all about. So you want to put the biggest benefit that you can on your first page of your website because you’re going to have to assume that readers won’t want to scroll down to see the rest of your website. You see you only have like what half a second one second to actually grab their attention. And when you do that, what you want to do is you want to make sure that if you are a marketing blog and you want to tell readers that hey, I have awesome marketing information. What you want to do is if that’s your like the main point of your website you want to make that clear with a headline that she grabs their attention and then maybe it depends on what your strategy is, but you could also put like a clear picture maybe something like Graphics to emphasize a headline. But the main thing that you want to do is you want to grab their attention for like a split second and get them to read on the next sentence. The first thing you want to do is you want to put the most relevant information on the top of the website and when I say top I mean above the fold so this means the biggest the most clearest headline that you can write the most tantalizing the one that actually grabs their attention. Instead of going to the tab bar and clicking x what you want to do is whenever you create this headline you want to make sure that it’s the biggest benefit and the most relevant to that a reader. It’s so easy to just with a website to just click out because it’s not interesting enough because there’s like what a billion articles on Google. You see what that leads Direct Mail, you know, if you got mail yet actually put effort to put the mail in the trash can but with the website, all you have to do is take half a second to scroll over to the tab bar. And actually click the X. That’s why it’s even more important to make sure that you actually grab their attention. Now, there’s a couple ways that you can make that first impression really great. The first way is you can just create the biggest most clearest benefit as your first headline. Now, this is the easiest way because if they see they see the headlines every day. Alright. Yeah, this is relevant to me. Yeah. I like we’re just going then the continue scrolling down to see if the rest of your stuff is actually pretty good. Another way you can do is you can do this instead of a headline. You could do like a Video or a picture or a combination or maybe something like listing out the benefits whatever you do you want to make sure that the most important thing is on the top of the website second thing you want to do for website copy is you want to become a problem solver? You see when you are Problem Solver. It makes Googling a lot easier because I think the number one reason why people like to Google is to solve problems which makes sense because like if I have a foot pain, and I don’t know what’s causing it. Well, I’m going to Google how to stop foot pain. And I’m going to get a bunch of articles about how to stop flipping the only way that I’m going to pick that specific article is if that headline and the description actually matches with what I want to read. You see, it doesn’t matter how amazing your website is if the tension and the headline and the description doesn’t actually grab your attention or maybe recently and since I got a dog maybe I’m learning how to train your dog, you know to train my dog to run with me. So I’m going to type in Google how to train my dog with me while running and I’m going to get a bunch of Articles now what you want to make sure is whenever you optimize your website copy you want to make sure that it’s optimized to solve a specific problem because I think that’s a majority of reasons why people actually go and Google is because they need information to solve a certain problem. This leads us to our third point which is to research on your keywords and focus on SEO second. Now when I say SEO second is because I want you to focus on the readers engagement. You see Google likes it when you focus on the reader, you know, they Age with it it actually makes sense. It doesn’t sound like keyword stuffing and just trying to get all the SEO juice out of them know what they want is they look at the how long you’re on the website and seeing if they’re like engaging with the website and going through more pages and to do that. You have to make your articles interesting enough. For example, let’s say your word is copywriting. Alright, so instead of going through your list about like how copywriting is amazing and how copywriting can do that and how copywriting can do that? You see stars become a mouthful because you keep saying copywriting. Copywriting whereas it makes a lot more smoother when you just say copy, you know, I write copy better. This is why copy works for you, even though copy isn’t that specific keyword? It makes it a lot easier for the readers to actually read your article. Now, of course, it might be good to like switch it up a little bit, you know, add some copywriting at some SEO juice in but you should always focus on making the customers and the readers actually interested in your article first before you focus on optimizing your keyword. Is a couple ways that you can choose your keyword like the first way is you just go and Google you type in the keyword. Let’s say you want to search up copywriting. All right, so you search up copywriting and then a bunch of suggestions underneath. It’s going to pop up those suggestions means that those people are from around the world are searching that exact term. So that’s one consideration do keyword research second way is you create a business account on Google AdWords. And what you can do is once you learn the interface and how to get the Google what you can do is you can do keyword research. Search to see how many people are buying that keyword. What’s the competitive bid how difficult is it to rank for that word? What exactly are the terms that people are searching for and what you can do is you can put that word and optimize it. Let’s say if you’re doing a blog post you can put in yoast SEO and optimize for that specific keyword the third way to optimize your keyword is to go on Neil Patel Zuber suggest now, it’s free and I think it’s an amazing resource. But what you could do is you could type in your specific keyword and what’s going to happen is a bunch of keywords are going to pop up. Up. And what you do is you can tell that the same thing you can tell the SEO difficulty. How many people are going through the website how many people are searching for that keyword? And what you can do is you choose a specific keyword and then you try to blend it in with your article, you know, make it sound smooth and nice and easy to read when you’re choosing keywords. It’s better. If especially if you’re a brand new website is you want to Target the long tail keywords because if you target some words like dog and cat you see the problem with targeting short keywords is one it’s very competitive. Like the best like Petco, I got to Target keywords like a dog and cat and then as your difficulties going to be through the roof and you can have the pain like you have to be dropping cash or just compete with them. Whereas a long tail keyword is it’s less competitive because less people are searching for it, but it makes it much more targeted for your specific readers. So let’s say instead of targeting dogs. You want to Target walking how to walk with dogs on a leash and then you type that exact word. Well, maybe you only get like 1000 monthly searches but those people who actually search that and you actually click on your website those going to be a much more relevant to your specific readers and audience for your specific article. Did the more relevant your search is the longer they’ll stay on your website and the longer they stay on your website. The more Google will notice and the more Google that notices will all the more Google want to push your search up to the top of the page and because it’ll help make them more money. Another thing you want to do is you want to format correctly with the correct. Things now before when I used to write my blog post, I just put like, you know the title then I put heading to heading to heading to heading to what I found out was that when you every actually categorize a correctly like heading 2 heading 3 heading 4, it helps optimize Google searches because they’ll know that heading 3 is under heading to which is related to this topic. And what happens is when you give more information about how these topics are similar to each other it helps make it a lot easier for Google to figure out what the heck you’re writing and To help you find a more relevant searches for your target audience. So make sure you use heading 2 heading 3 heading 4 correctly the I thought it was just, you know, just for stylistic effect, but there’s actually a real purpose behind it and why to do it it may not make a huge difference. But over time just like SEO it’ll make a difference over time. After that. What you want to do is you want to link to other websites. You see when you lever you link to other websites, it creates a connection between that website and your website and it gives more information to Google to how to index your site Plus. Whenever you write a blog post whenever you link to another website, it shows that you put in the actual effort to go through that site. See if the information is relevant and linking back to your site. Another cool thing you can do is after you link to that website where you can do is you can hit up that person. Let’s say you create a blog article and be like, hey, I linked your article. I’d be if you like my article, I’d appreciate if you feel free and share and you see what happens is you’ll have one more person to outreach to actually share the article and if they really liked your article, it’s unlikely. but they might link back to you. You also want to use a mobile reader. I also known as a phone to check your work you see what happens is I told you that you should put the most important things on the top of the page whenever you look through a desktop. It’s completely different from your mobile phone now people understand this, but they forget about it because whenever you look through your desktop, you know, you get this huge nice. Let’s say 24 inch desktop, and you’re just looking through and, you know, you could fit in like a headline a picture and maybe some descriptions whereas on your phone. Maybe it’s only just your Line, or maybe it’s just half your headline and they have the actually scroll through to get through your whole message. You also have to consider if it’s optimized for mobile, which means that what it’s formatted correctly so that no blocked X are just going out of the screen and two it’s actually optimized for Speed. Now the best way you can do this is you can go to Google pagespeed insights and you can see your website, you know type in my website Anthony and about.com and you can see like the link a score from zero to a hundred how fast your website it is and how optimize it is and then what if it’s not optimized it’s going to give you a list of reasons why it’s not optimized. You see the faster your speed is the much more likely that they’re going to stay on your page or actually see your page because if it’s less than 2 seconds, you have a much higher chance for them to check out your page because after two seconds, you know, three seconds four seconds five seconds. People are belie. Is there something wrong with his website, you know, they’ll just exit out and they’ll never have a chance to see your headline or C. Whatever you’re trying to offer. That’s why it’s really important that you optimize for For your website after that you want to make sure that it’s really really easy for them to take action. You see, I think the number one reason why you should have a website. It’s for them to take some sort of action. And usually that’s for a monetary reasons, like for example, you know, you have a product and you want to sell it to them or maybe you’re a charity and you’re trying to bring awareness, you know, those help support something and to support them, you know, you bring more awareness and help provide funds to them. Maybe there’s some sort of bloggers YouTubers that you like so much and you love the content that you want to help support them. And then you know you try and buy their merge or you know, you subscribe and to their premium services or whatever. You see you want to make sure that whatever you have on your website that at the end or anywhere on your website that you think makes sense that there’s some sort of call to action for some sort of thing now besides a premium. So were you spending money you could also do other things like checking out your blog contacting you may be adding into your email opt-in list. There’s a whole there’s a ton of actions that you can make them do after they go on your website. And you want to make sure that it’s optimized for one call to action because when you have ton of call actions it yeah, you’ll think that okay, so they have a lot of things to choose from but it’s a lot better if it’s optimized for one specific action that you really want them to take. And what I usually do is I’ll have a bunch of options but the most important one I’ll put at the very top of the page because that’s going to be the one that will be most likely to see and I’ll be a lot more people to read that actual call to action last tip I got for you is just be yourself. Yourself now I know this is this is hella corny, but you see what’s going on what I mean is there’s there’s like one 500 million blogs out there in 2019 and there’s probably I don’t know like a hundred million YouTube channels. You see there’s so much information out there that is incredibly hard to distinguish yourself. Like just look at my channel back in a month ago. There’s I get 1/6 views. It’s heated way to distinguish yourself is the one get good and to be yourself like there’s no way around it. You have to get good and whatever crap you’re trying to do and that includes writing website copy. Now, of course, you might have your own specific, you know, and like I don’t know cork to it and the only way to get good at your craft is just to keep doing it and that includes a website copy. Now, of course, there’s going to be some sort of problem. You know, it being a sub you’re going to be polarizing and that’s a good thing. You want people to side with you and some people do be against you which means that you’re on the right track because not everyone’s going to support your own thoughts. Opinions, that’s all you’re special because you’re oh you have your own thoughts your own opinions. And when you put that in showcase your personality into your website copy, what’s going to happen is you’re going to strip out the people who the haters gonna hate man, and you can have the people who support you support you even further because you’re actually taking a stance that they believe in now is this gonna be awkward at first if you don’t know what you’re doing? Yeah, but but being your true self will help you distinguish yourself from The 500 million blogs because there’s only one of you or I hope so. Hope you enjoyed my video.
