Drupal 8 User Guide: 5.3. Editing a Content Item

Editing a Content Item
with Amber Matz In this tutorial, we’ll walk through
how to edit an existing content item. We’re going to edit
the home content item that we created in a previous tutorial. By the end of this tutorial, you’ll have updated the hours
of the “Home” page content item. To follow along, you should have
already gone through the tutorial, Creating a Content Item,
and created a basic page called “Home” with the values
specified in that lesson. See the written version of this tutorial for a link to the prerequisite. In the Manage administrative menu,
navigate to Content. If the content item you want to edit
was update or created recently, it should appear near the top
of the content list on that page. If not, you can use
these filters to locate your item. Click Edit in the row of the content item
you want to edit, which, in our case, is Home. This will open the content
editing form for this page. Update the opening hours
in the body field. Let’s change the hours
to 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Make sure that the Create new
revision box is checked in the Published area
in the right sidebar. Enter a Revision log message
explaining what changes you are making. This text will appear
in the Revision log for the page. This Revision log can help you
and any other editor see what has been changed. Creating a revision
also makes it possible to revert to a previous version, or see exactly what was changed,
when it was changed, and by whom. Scroll down to the bottom
of the page and click Save. We can now view the page
by clicking on the hyperlink title, and we can see our new operating hours. We can also see the Revision log
by clicking on the Revisions tab. In this tutorial, we edited
the “Home” page content item and updated the hours in the body field. We then saved a new published
revision of this page. See the written version of this tutorial for alternatives to locating
and editing a content item.
